Gulkaar BD makes Pakistani-inspired womenswear in its own factory in Uttara, Dhaka. The cuts, the prints and the work follow the Pakistani and Afghan dresses our customers ask for — made here, to a standard we can stand behind.
The factory and the showroom are both ours. Nothing is bought finished from a wholesale market and re-labelled, and there is no importer or middleman between the cutting table and you. That is why a dress of this weight and this much work costs about half what an imported one does.
The cloth
We work in 100% cotton and keep it at 100% — no blend sold as cotton. Alongside it we use lawn, georgette, chiffon and organza, and we run digital print on our own cloth.
The work we do in-house
- Digital print — full panels, printed on our own fabric.
- Sublimation print — colour that sits in the cloth, not on top of it.
- Flat embroidery — the everyday thread work, front and hem.
- Luxury embroidery — the heavy, close work for a party dress.
- Chikankari — fine white-on-white hand-style work.
- Sequin work — sequins laid into the pattern, not glued on.
- Laser cutting — clean cut edges, scallops and daman work.
Our own designs
Every dress here is drawn by our own design team, inspired by contemporary Pakistani fashion and adapted for Bangladeshi customers — our sizes, our climate, our prices. Each one carries a Gulkaar BD design number, and you will find them all on the shop page by fabric.
Gulkaar BD is an independent fashion brand. We are not affiliated with, authorised by or connected to any third-party fashion house, and we do not sell their products.
How a dress gets made
- Our design team draws the season's piece — the neckline, the daman, the placement of the work — and sizes it for Bangladeshi customers.
- Fabric is chosen and the print or the embroidery is run on a sample first.
- The piece is cut and stitched on our own floor — 1 piece, 2 piece or 3 piece.
- Every piece is checked and pressed before it is packed.
Wholesale and retail
Retail orders go out one dress at a time, anywhere in Bangladesh. Shops and resellers buy from the same floor at wholesale rates — see Wholesale.
